For as many years as I can remember Or Chaim has had a lone stained glass window, hovering right above the Aron Kodesh in its sunlit aura. Now joining the original window are six new ones, all with beautiful pictures of Israeli settings. The school went outside of their art staff to hire a Jewish stained glass specialist. The artist, the same one who designed the original stained glass window for the Beit Midrash debut on September 6th, 1993, is named Ron Henig. You might know Henig from his other famous windows, like the ones in the main sanctuary of the BAYT, the largest Jewish orthodox shul in North America. When interviewed, an Or Chaim anonymous student said that "The windows have truly inspired my davening. Everyday I walk into that Beit Midrash and it's as if Israel's shadow rests upon my siddur." Rabbi Gemara said in one of his post davening speeches that the windows remind us of our unified dream of returning to Israel. He joked that one day we will be davening in Israel with stained glass windows depicting downtown Toronto.
I think the Knightly Knews can say on behalf of the entire school, thank you Ron Henig!
